Bengaluru will host the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia 2026 later this month, with matches scheduled from October 20 to 25 at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium. Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara announced the event on Monday, emphasizing Karnataka's commitment to establishing the city as a basketball hub.

Six prominent women's basketball clubs from across Asia will participate in the tournament, including Denso Iris from Japan, Cheongju KB Stars from South Korea, Sichuan Yuanda Meile from China, Akari Sparks from the Philippines, Cathay Life Tigers from Chinese Taipei, and Indian Railways, the current national champions.

The Karnataka State Basketball Association is organizing the championship in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of India and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Each participating team will include two American players, while NBA players will also take part in the competition.

According to Parameshwara, the tournament presents a valuable opportunity for young basketball players across India to observe international-level competition and learn from elite athletes. He noted that the event would help promote women's basketball in Karnataka and encourage more girls to pursue the sport.

All matches will take place at 4 pm and 7 pm daily throughout the six-day championship. The state government has pledged full support for the event as part of its broader strategy to position Bengaluru as a major sporting destination.
